Profile

Established in 1991, the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is a top-tier university in Asia. Acclaimed for its science and technology curriculum, the University is also reputed for its business school which ranks among the region’s best. The University is committed to its mission in Educating Leaders and Advancing Knowledge for Singapore and Beyond, and positions itself to be a global university of excellence. NTU has a student enrolment of about 25,000 students, out of which more than 6,000 are graduate students. It offers a broad-based curriculum, which focuses on the development of global views, entrepreneurship and adaptability.

The University offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programmes leading to the award of Bachelor degrees and the degrees of Master and Doctor of Philosophy as well as postgraduate diplomas.
The UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES can be completed in either 3-years(Busines-related courses) or 4-years. Qualified students may be considered for the Integrated or Double-Degree Programmes. Students may tailor their studies to have "major" or "minor". Internship, either locally or overseas, is a key component in most programmes. Besides core domain subjects, students are required to select other subjects offered by other schools within NTU so that their university educations will be wholistic and broad-based. All freshmen are strongly encouraged to live in the university residential hall.

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) was ranked 73rd globally in the The Times Higher Education (2009) ranking of the world's best universities. Placed 33rd among technology universities, NTU remains well within the upper echelons of the world's best science and technological universities

Expanding rapidly on a solid foundation of science and technology, the university is breaking new ground in global education as a comprehensive university.

Its 200-ha residential campus, located in the south-western part of Singapore, was originally developed for a Chinese language university, Nanyang University, in 1955. In 1981, Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI) was established on this campus to educate engineers for Singapore to support Singapore's economy. NTI became Nanyang Technological University in 1991 and the vision has since being global-focussed.

Besides having one of the largest engineering colleges in the world, NTU has a top-tier business school with one of the top 100 MBA programmes in the world, an internationally acclaimed National Institute of Education, one of the best communication and information schools in Asia, and a biological sciences school at the forefront of Singapore's life sciences initiative. The Institute of Defence & Strategic Studies is a world authority on terrorism.

Three new schools - Art, Design and Media, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Physical and Mathematical Sciences - have been established with NTU turning comprehensive in 2005.

Focused on grooming global leaders, NTU launched The New Undergraduate Experience in 2003 to provide students a strong, broad academic foundation, professional preparation, global immersion and an unforgettable campus experience. NTU students also hone their leadership skills through residential living and self-governance. Not surprisingly, graduates of the university are sought-after and well-paid.

NTU has expanded its global network to accelerate collaborative research, teaching and entrepreneurship. It has many joint programmes with top universities. They include the Singapore-MIT Alliance, Singapore-Stanford Partnership, Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management, and Singapore-University of Washington Alliance in Bioengineering. The Global Immersion Programme, which offers an exceptional multi-country experience of language, culture, industry and entrepreneurship, allows NTU students to be engaged in study/research with renowned universities worldwide.
